When reading the stories or watching the videos, always remember to keep an open eye to the writer’s biases, experiences, leanings and incentives – as well as to your own, of course. Also keep in mind the relevant subjects discussed in the meeting that just weren’t given enough media because of the Sokol affair, such as the insurance cycle.
Warren Buffett recently participated in CNBC’s annual “Ask Warren” 3-hour interview, and it’s never a waste of time despite the CNBC’s focus on shorter-term issues. The Currency Wars continue. You don’t a stronger signal that the situation is tense than when Bob Zoellick, the former US trade official and current World Bank President, says to the FT that we should reconsider gold as a currency and that Bretton Woods II is dated. The provocative yet clearly targeted article makes the US “official” position very clear ahead of the G-20 meeting. Make no mistake, this is political positioning at its finest. Reactions didn’t take long, and we highlight a few of them.
